Tangzhuang 唐装

Literally, Tangzhuang means the traditional outfit of the Han people in the Tang Dynasty. It is one of the Chinese traditional clothing.

唐装指唐制汉服，是中国汉民族的传统服饰之一。

The general features include cross collars, the left lapel over the right, and a belt to tie instead of buttons.

其特征是交领、右社、系带。

The major styles include the classic half-sleeved jacket shirts with full skirts, turbans, loose-sleeved shirts, and round-collared robes.

唐制汉服主要有半臂、襦裙、幞头、大袖衫、圆领袍等。

The distinctive low-cut gowns with high waist-band for women were luxuriant, loose, and more revealing, a reflection in the fashion world of the open-minded atmosphere, liberal politics, prosperous economy and frequent cultural exchange of the time.

以高腰襦裙为代表的女子服饰有着鲜明的时代特征，它表现出的开放大度、雍容华贵以及人体美，反映了大唐政治的开明、经济的发达和对外文化交流频繁的盛世景象。

Tangzhuang in a modern sense refers to the Chinese outfit that bears no relationship with the clothes of the Tang Dynasty.

现代意义上的唐装指具有中国特色的服装，而不是唐朝的服装。

Modern Tangzhuang evolved from Magua, the riding jacket of the Manchu horsemen.

现代唐装源自清朝满族的骑服——马褂。

Its basic features include standing collars, raglan sleeves, symmetrical front opening, and knotted buttons.

在款式上主要有几个显著特征：立领、连袖、对襟盘扣。

Unlike the traditional 2D “flat-cutting”, which tends to produce a baggy and loose-fitting look, modern Tangzhuang is more influenced by the 3D “solid-cutting” used in Europe.

突破了传统的宽松式样的平面剪裁，加入欧洲的立体剪裁的元素，剪裁更合体。

Sometimes shoulder pads are used in order to achieve a stronger silhouette.

垫肩的使用更突显轮廓。

In choice of colors, red and blue are the much preferred. Traditional fabric such as brocaded silk is used and some are heavily embroidered with auspicious patterns.

面料一般采用织锦，颜色以红色和蓝色为主，并绣有吉祥图案。

The word “Tangzhuang” was initially used by overseas Chinese.

“唐装”的称谓来源于海外。

Because of the high reputation of the Tang Dynasty, Chinese people are called “Tang People” by foreigners and the overseas Chinese community or the Chinatown called “Tang people’s Community”, and hence their costume “Tangzhuang”.

唐朝盛世，声名远播，外国人常把中国人叫作“唐人”，海外中国人的社区叫作“唐人街”，那么中国人的服装自然就被叫作“唐装”。

This word was popularized in 2001, when the heads of states made their appearance at the APEC summit in Shanghai, all dressed in Tangzhuang.

在2001年上海APEC会议上，各国元首身着唐装集体亮相，给人留下深刻的印象。

The impressive scene gained Tangzhuang a widespread popularity ever since.

并在国内外掀起一股穿唐装的风潮。

It is still a favorable choice for the Chinese people to wear for traditional Chinese festivals or wedding ceremonies.

唐装仍是中国人在传统节日和婚礼上的首选服装。
